2007 Wildflower Training Weekend, April 4-6, 2008

JOIN GGTC IN PREPARING FOR THE WILDFLOWER TRIATHLON!

Whether this is your first or 10th time racing Wildflower, GGTC's Wildflower Training Weekend (WFTW) has something for everyone. WFTW will take place April 4-6, 2008. Come join us as we swim, bike and run the course complete with coaches and clinics. This event is open to everyone with priority given to GGTC members. Sign-ups for GGTC members for both cabin and camping spots begin Thursday, March 6th at 9 am. If there are camping spots available as of March 10th, non-members will be allowed to reserve a camping spot at this time.

Important Sign-up Information for Members:

In order to sign up for GGTC's Wildflower Training Weekend your membership must be valid through April 6, 2008 . If your membership is due to expire on or before April 6th, you must renew your membership by midnight, March 4th or you will not receive the sign-up email. In order to sign up for GGTC's Wildflower

1. Coaches

The Long Course will be coached by Chris Hauth of AIMP Coaching Services , Performance Labs HC and his coaching team.

The Olympic Distance will be coached by Neil and Laura Fraser, Tri More Fitness

2. Support and clinics

ART/massage therapy will be available onsite.

Wrench Support and Long Course SAG will be provided by Pacific Bicycle .

3. RESERVATIONS

There are two choices for accommodations for WFTW: (1) cabins near the swim start, or (2) camping (in the true spirit of Wildflower). Reservations and payments via PayPal will be handled through a series of evites. There are 2 different evites your choice if accommodations:
  • Cabin spots
  • Camping spots
On March 6th, active members will receive two evites, one to sign up for a cabin spot and one to sign up for a camping spot. (An active member is defined here as a member whose membership is not set to expire until April 7, 2008 or later. Please log into the website to verify your membership expiration date. If your expiration date is April 6, 2008 or earlier, you must renew your membership by midnight, March 4th or you will not receive the evites.)

Evite links will not be sent to the GGTC discussion or announcement group.

WFTW spots, both cabin and camping, are available on a first come first serve basis. Your spot is considered secured when you have RSVPed to the Evite, submitted your PayPal payment and received a confirmation email. Payments must be made by 9 pm the same day, otherwise your spot will be given away. Payment guarantees your spot, not just an RSVP to the Evite ! If you do not have a PayPal account, this is a good time to set one up. Please note that if you are planning on signing up for a cabin spot you will not be choosing a cabin during this process. Once we have determined the final list for the cabins, we will be sending out a separate Evite for cabin assignments.

The cost for a cabin spot for the weekend is $130 per person. The cost for those who sign up for a camping spot is $50 per person. Why the increased cost for a cabin spot as compared to last year? In April the Lake San Antonio rental fee for the cabins switches from winter to summer rates.

Please check your membership status and sign up for PayPal if you haven't already done so. Evite links will only be sent to active members and not posted to the GGTC discussion or announcement group and payment is only accepted via PayPal.

If you are not a member and would like to sign-up for the training weekend, you must wait until March 1oth when the camping Evite will be posted to discussion and announcement list.

4. COST AND ACCOMMODATIONS

a) CABINS ($130) There are a total of 16 "cabins" (i.e. mobile homes)

Cost Includes:

  • Cabin Lodging in a shared bed situation for Fri and Sat nights (if it's a 2-person bed, it gets 2 people with the exception of the sleeper sofas which only get one person)
  • Parking pass only if you carpool
  • Training clinics/workouts
  • Catered BBQ on Saturday night
General Cabin Info:
  • The cabins are actually upscale double-wide trailer homes.
  • Sleeping arrangements are decided on a first-come, first-serve basis. So the last people to arrive will most likely have the sofa beds in the living room. The sleeping arrangements for each cabin are as follows:
    • Cabins 1 & 2 . 3 Bedroom/2 Bath (sleeps 10)
      • Bedroom #1 - 1 Queen Bed
      • Bedroom #2 - 2 Full Size Beds
      • Bedroom #3 . 1 Bunk Bed
      • Living Room - 2 Queen Sleeper Sofas
    • Cabins 3 & 4 . 2Bbd/1ba (sleeps 5)
      • Bedroom #1 - 1 Queen Bed
      • Bedroom #2 - 1 Bunk Bed
      • Living Room - 2 Queen Sleeper Sofas
    • Cabins 5, 6 & 7 . 3 Bedroom/2 Bath (sleeps 8)
      • Bedroom #1 - 1 Queen Bed
      • Bedroom #2 - 1 Queen Bed
      • Bedroom #1 - 1 Bunk Bed
      • Living Room - 2 Queen Sleeper Sofas
    • Cabins 10 through 17 . 3 Bedroom/2 Bath (sleeps 7)
      • Bedroom #1 - 1 Queen Bed
      • Bedroom #2 - 1 Double Bed
      • Bedroom #1 - 1 Bunk Bed
      • Living Room - 1 Queen Sleeper Sofas
  • Please consider the following when choosing a cabin:
    • Check-in and the BBQ takes place at/in front of cabin 5.
  • Check-out times:
    • Upper cabins (8-17): must be out before 11 a.m. Note this before you head out for the run clinic on Sunday. You may rinse off in the lower cabins or in the camping showers after the run if you would like. These cabins are ideal for those training for the Olympic Course.
    • Lower cabins (1-7): must be out by 3 p.m. If you are doing long course run, please have your stuff packed before the run. As the people in the upper cabins have to check out before the run, they will likely be rinsing off in the lower cabins after the run. These cabins are ideal for those training for the Long Course.
    • The cabins have a normal kitchen set-up with oven/stove, refrigerator, dishes, dishwasher (in some), microwave, and a coffee maker.
    • There are linens provided (towels and sheets).
    • No pets allowed.
    • Your cabin spots are non-refundable but transferable to another member (priority to those on the cabin waitlist) with my approval. Please contact me ASAP if you need to transfer your spot.
    • We are given a limited amount of parking passes which are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis for those that carpool.
b) CAMPING ($50 for members, $70 for non-members):

Cost includes:
  • Training clinics and workouts,
  • Catered BBQ on Saturday night.
General Camping info:
  • Campers are to be campers! You cannot sleep inside the cabins (even if your friend tells you it.s okay). You need to use the camping showers, bring a cooler for your food, etc. Feel free to hang out with your friends in the cabins, but please be respectful of the people who have paid for the cabins.
  • Parking/camping is not included in the above fee and is paid directly to the Parks Department at the gate. Camping fees are $20 per vehicle per night.
  • Pets are allowed but there are very strict restrictions. Please contact the Parks Department (800-310-2313) for details.
  • The Park does not take advance camping reservations, but be assured there is space. You will pay either when you come in, or if you come in late, they will place a "bill" on your car the next day.
  • It can get a bit cold at night (~35-40 deg), so come prepared. We'll send out a weather forecast the week of WFTW.
  • Camping questions? Contact http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/sanantonio.htm

You are responsible for your own for food and training nutrition needs. So please plan accordingly.

The Saturday night catered BBQ is included for both the cabins and the campers. The menu is TBD.

9. DIRECTIONS
Lake San Antonio is approximately 200 miles from San Francisco. Assume that is will be 4 hours of travel time with traffic. From San Francisco, take 101 South for about 180 miles, just BEFORE King City take the G14-Jolon Rd exit and head south (~20 miles)to Lockwood. Turn right on Interlake Road. After ~13 miles you'll turn left into Lake San Antonio, watch the sings. Follow this road for 3 miles to the Park Ranger gate, then all the way to the Marina where the cabins are. We suggest bringing a map with you.
