The GGTC Half Ironman Training ("HIT") Program

Welcome to the Golden Gate Triathlon Club's Half Ironman Training Program (HIT) for the 2010 Big Kahuna Triathlon! The GGTC and Tri More Fitness would like to help you achieve your first or best half ironman!

We're looking for triathlon-experienced people ready to train with your GGTC-mates for an extraordinary event. YOU and up to 39 of your best GGTC-friends will be training for the Big Kahuna Triathlon on Sunday, September 12th, 2010. You will swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 miles.

The program is professionally coached and managed by GGTC Premier Sponsor TRIMORE Fitness (TMF). As USAT-Certified Triathlon Coaches, the TMF team has coached hundreds of Triathlete’s in races of all distances, from Sprint Distance to Ironman.

As a participant in this program you will receive a 10-week periodized training program made available using Training Peaks. Training Peaks is a powerful online software tool that allows participants to track their training on a day-to-day basis, while also providing an interface for your TRIMORE Fitness coach to oversee your individual training.

Participants will take part in weekly coached group workouts on the weekends providing an opportunity to interact with your coaches along with the other athletes. You will also have access to your TRIMORE Fitness coach via email for personal questions and feedback.

HIT Program Costs:
  • $175 for members
  • $240 for non-members (includes $65 for a one-year GGTC membership)

HIT Training Includes:
  • A professionally developed 10-week 70.3/half-ironman training regimen.
  • An introductory account with Training Peaks so you can track your training and TMF can oversee and manage your training.
  • Participation in an electronic group discussion list and web forum with access limited solely to program participants and coaches.
  • One professionally coached group workout each weekend (With TMF Coaches in attendance).
  • Email access to your TMF coaches.

 

FAQS

Who is this for? This program is intended for our intermediate to experienced athletes, meaning you have completed an Olympic distance event at least once within the past 12-months. Special consideration will be given to those that may not have completed a triathlon, please contact Coach Neil directly. Additionally, you must be in good physical condition.


When will I be working out?Training schedules will be updated weekly. As a participant, you'll be able to log-in to Training Peaks and view your workout schedule for the week. Every Saturday, you will have a coached group workout were you learn and test your training. (Additional workouts with TRIMORE Fitness are avalaible at a discounted rate for HIT Members)

Where will I be training? Weekend group workouts will be held in San Francisco, Marin and on the Big Kahuna course in Santa Cruz including swimming in the ocean, biking the full 56-mile course, and previewing the run course. We also encourage all participants to attend the GGTC track workouts on Wednesday nights. During the week you can train on your own or with other HIT participants.

What happens if I can't make it to all the workouts? As an experienced athlete, you know the drill, knocking out your workouts is up to you. Keep to the schedule as best you can. You can always contact your coaches for help in planning your week.

Do I have to race? No. Participation is optional. This program is about trying something new, setting goals, and achieving them. Many participants use this program as a way to see if they want to do a future half ironman or Ironman!
